...You all need it too - don't lie...

self portrait.

sorry for the big watermark!

:D oh i missed my dark, conceptual self-portraits, and i love how this one came out...it has the smoke and the blood.

the blood is a mixture of caramel, soya, stawberry gelly and food coloring and it tastes really bad, but the visual result is great!

I've come across this a few times now, in my travels, and I must say that it's memorable, at the least.
I think what got it lodged into my brain was the soft contours and texture you have created here surrounding the model. The stark bright red blood is apparent, but it doesn't detract from the overall femininity and clean cut neck and chin, which is very pleasing to the eye.
You've cropped and edited it just enough to give it a continuous flow, and there isn't an element out of place on the model that could be critiqued. From the veil to the wisps of smoke to the collarbone, you've created a very nicely boxed portrait that is a genuine enjoyment to look at.

The only thing that really sets me off is the blue in the background. Blue and red, they never work together very well, even though this is leaning more towards gray. Red and blue tend to make a folks eyes cross, luckily that doesn't happen here, because there are also elements of green in the curtain, but next time (if there ever is one) might I suggest a black or white or even red backdrop for a piece like this? I believe it would really bring out the focal point of the shot, which is the model, and blend in with the idea of the blood/smoke and veil, as opposed to a color on the opposite end of the spectrum like bluish greenish gray.

If you ever choose, as well, to come back to a piece like this, you have just the right amount of blood to make it pleasing, but you could try giving your work a more streamlined feel by having it go to the end of the photo border instead of just on the chin. It might look good, and tie the photograph together.

Overall, this is a fantastic and eye candy like piece that I am glad I've seen over and over, each time is like new.
