This is a good portrait with an interesting choice of square crop. I think the crop works quite well with this shot because the photographer has opted to go for the full frame approach, i.e. filling the entire picture with the subject. It works with this particular photograph as it marries up nicely with the subject's expression and helps draw the viewer in and make them feel like they are actually beholding the subject themselves - a very desirable effect for a photo like this.

Although the sepia-esque tones look quite pleasing and may suit the image in certain ways, I think it may have been better to go for simple black and white with a good amount of contrast. This would have made the shot look much more natural and classic-looking, especially because of the inclusion of the flowers. That said, the sepia tones don't really take that much away from the shot either.

The photo could also have been made even better with a bit more light and shadow, with particular regard to the right side of the subject's face. This would have given more pleasing and natural-looking contrast as well.

This is a very nice portrait and certainly shows that the artist has talent.
